Work in progress session

The project was re-briefed and we were finally put into our groups for the project, and they explained to us that it would be a joint project with the advertising students. We were given the rest of the day to start thinking about ideas for our window display and at the end we would have to present our ideas to the rest of the class. We used the morning to generate different ideas and themes from all members of the group and we were able to come up with a list and add connotations to each particular theme. We then used the afternoon to create mood boards to visually enforce all our different ideas and then at the presentation explained why and how we came up with the ideas.

So what?

The experience of this brief was different because it would be a group project and we had to be partnered not only with classmates but also course mates from the art and design field. I liked how as a group though we hadn’t worked together before we were able to get with the task at hand and generate good ideas. The work in progress session helped me learn how to work in a group again after being used to working alone on my own projects. I was able to adapt to the role of being in a group and not be lazy, take a back seat and not participate. What we found that worked well was the way we could all agree on how to make the mood boards and add the right images. The day allowed us to really become a group because we were forced to work together.

Now what?

Reflecting on the day I believe it was a success because we were able to already generate ideas and begin making mood boards, so the progress allowed us to be ahead of what we had initially anticipated. What I will now do is to start documenting what we did into my sketchbook and illustrate the themes. I think what we could have done differently is to write about the journey of how we came up with our ideas, just to create a back story. For the next week we have set ourselves a target of making a presentation that will show our progress as a group.
